Another way to correct eye weaknesses is to use contact lenses. The appearance of these lenses is almost made of glass or plastic, and they are placed on the surface of the cornea of the eye and cause poor correction of the eye (refractive defect).

Contact lenses are divided into two types, soft and hard. Soft lenses are divided into two groups.

A: Graded soft lenses for eyes with weak degrees of myopia, farsightedness and astigmatism, which are available in colored and transparent and non-colored forms. Soft lenses are mostly used to correct farsightedness and myopia, which are either not accompanied by astigmatism, or the amount of astigmatism in the eye is low and in the range of 3.00. If the amount of astigmatism along with nearsightedness and farsightedness is more than 3.00, or if the astigmatism alone is more than 3.00, it is better to use hard lenses to correct eye weakness. Hard lenses can be used to correct all eye weaknesses (refractive defects), and in this case there is almost no limit to the amount of eye weakness and astigmatism. .

Conditions of using lenses

When you decide to use lenses of any type, soft or hard, colored or non-colored, in the first step, you must be motivated enough to use the lens, that is, first check all aspects and do enough research and know what the lens is and how and under what conditions it can be used. Don't get into trouble in using it so that it doesn't cause a headache for both yourself and the examiner. In general, whoever wants to use contact lenses should know its advantages and disadvantages. Unfortunately, in our country, this very important point has been neglected and many people, with their eyeglass scores in hand, buy their lenses from centers such as eyeglass stores, pharmacies, cosmetics and hygiene supplies, and recently online stores. You should know that contact lenses are very different from glasses because they are a device. is directly on the cornea and in direct contact with the eye, and the presence of any problems in the lacrimal system, hidden infections, problems and inflammations of the eyes and eyelids can bring many risks in case of using lenses prepared from non-scientific centers. Therefore, people who want to use lenses must first of all be carefully examined by an optometrist or ophthalmologist and the amount of refractive error (weak) (eyes) should be determined exactly. Both eyes should be accurately checked for infection, inflammation, eyelid disorders, tear disorders, chronic corneal disorders. Pupil size, corneal diameter, corneal curvature radius, light sensitivity should be determined exactly. In the case of hard lenses, the lens should be placed exactly on the eye and the person's vision, lens curvature, and amount of tears should be accurately checked.

  • The lens itself Make sure to get it from the examiner.
  • Comparison of soft and hard lenses

    A: Advantages of soft lenses

    • These lenses are easier to bear in the eyes than hard lenses, especially if a person wants to use these lenses for the first time. .

4- There is a wide range of these lenses in colored form.

      B: Advantages of hard lenses

      • The rate of oxygen passing through them is more than the soft type
      • The possibility of infection of these lenses is less
      • Maintenance of these lenses is easier

4- They have a longer life than soft lenses

      • - Compared to soft lenses A person with stigmatism has a better vision.

      Comparison of lenses and glasses

A: The advantages of lenses over glasses

1- A person has a better appearance in terms of beauty and has to bear the burden of wearing glasses. It is not. 2- Compared to glasses, it has a wider field of view. 3- Lenses do not have chromatic and spherical errors like glasses. It is more difficult to have them than glasses. 3- Cleaning and disinfecting them is time-consuming. 4- In some people, the quality of vision may not be as good as with glasses. Anti-blood pressure and anti-pregnancy drugs that reduce eye tears may cause problems. 9- If the lens is used in dry weather conditions, the lens may not be free of problems. All these lenses have the same conditions of use and are considered a completely medical device. You should know that the shorter the life of your lens, the better and less dangerous your lens is, because the use of lenses with a longer life span over time due to insufficient oxygen supply and the accumulation of fat and protein substances on the lens causes plaques to form on the lens. It may even cause irreparable complications.

Mainly, soft lenses are divided into five groups in terms of lifespan

      • Vial lenses (in glass) or annual lenses: these lenses have been obsolete for a long time in advanced countries and have been left out of the consumption cycle, but unfortunately in some countries such as Iran, due to being cheaper, they are widely available for consumption, and people without knowing the dangers of such lenses sometimes even last more than a year. lenses use. You should know that the scientific life span of this lens is a maximum of six months, contrary to their name, and the title of annual lenses is a non-scientific title for these lenses.
      • Seasonal lenses: The recommended life span for the use of such lenses is a maximum of three months, and these types of lenses are of higher quality than vial (annual) lenses due to the passage of more oxygen.
      • Monthly lenses: the useful life of these lenses is also one month, and Compared to the previous two groups, they have more quality in terms of eye health.
      • Weekly lenses: the lifespan of these lenses is one week, and in terms of health quality, they are much better than the previous three groups.
      • Daily lenses: The best lenses are currently the daily lenses that can be used for one day and night and are discarded after that. The passage of oxygen through these lenses is very high and due to the limited lifespan of these lenses, the risk of inflammation and infection is almost zero. Unfortunately, these types of lenses with all the advantages they have are used in a very limited way in our country due to their high cost.

        Guidelines for using lenses

        • Wash your hands before putting on and removing lenses
        • Always keep your nails short and clean

3- Never keep the lens in your eyes while sleeping unless the lens is one of the special lenses that can be kept in your eyes while sleeping. Avoid contact with contaminated hands or chemicals with the eyes.

      • Women should avoid using cosmetics around the eyelids and eyes as much as possible when using contact lenses, or if they want to use cosmetics after putting the lenses in the eyes.
      • Wash and clean the lens storage container (lens holder) once a week. If any redness, pain, inflammation or infection occurs, immediately remove the lens from the eye and consult a doctor.
