26 weeks pregnant: symptoms, tips and more

Congratulations dear mother!.. It is now the twenty-sixth week of pregnancy and you are a few days away from entering the third trimester of pregnancy!.. Whether time passes quickly or slowly due to nausea or anxiety, you will be happy to know that the third and final stage of this journey has almost begun.

Body changes in the twenty-sixth week of pregnancy

At 26 weeks pregnant, your uterus is more than 5 cm above the navel... do you have a ruler?.. try using your thumb to see how far your baby has come... from the knuckle of your thumb to the tip of your fingernail is about 2.5 cm... you should expect your belly to grow by another centimeter each week.

If you're worried about the extra weight in your midsection, remind yourself that about 5kg of that is baby, not including the amniotic fluid needed to carry this new life.

Child in the 26th week of pregnancy

Your baby is now about 33cm long and weighs 1kg and is about the size of a pumpkin's head....During this week, your baby will continue to inhale and exhale amniotic fluid that helps the lungs grow....If your baby is a boy, his testicles will begin to descend into the scrotum.

Also, with each passing day, your baby will be able to hear your voice more clearly... As the baby's ear nerves continue to develop, he will be able to distinguish your voice from other people's voices.

The growth of twins in the twenty-sixth week

Your babies are growing fast....soon they will be 22 cm tall and weigh almost 1 kg each....think about singing or reading to your little ones....their hearing will improve and they may even recognize your voice.

Symptoms of the twenty-sixth week of pregnancy

As the second trimester of pregnancy ends, the symptoms of the previous weeks, such as frequent urination, may continue... However, another symptom that may start from the twenty-sixth week of pregnancy is Braxton Hicks contractions.... These contractions can start from the second trimester, but are generally seen in the third trimester.

Gestational diabetes

Urine frequency is one of the common symptoms of pregnancy, but if you feel unusually thirsty during the day or go to the bathroom more often, you may see some symptoms of gestational diabetes.... Your doctor should definitely be aware of these symptoms.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 9% of women experience gestational diabetes during their pregnancy. The glucose tolerance test is the best way to determine whether you and your baby are at risk, and is now considered a standard test in pregnancy.

If a close family member has diabetes or you were overweight at the beginning of pregnancy, you may have already been tested for it.

Gestational diabetes does not mean that you had diabetes before pregnancy. You may also not develop it after giving birth, although women who have gestational diabetes are at a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

If you have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, you should know that this disease is associated with many complications during pregnancy and delivery, such as high birth weight babies (macrosomia) and an increased risk of cesarean delivery. If gestational diabetes is diagnosed early and properly controlled, you should be able to have a healthy and safe pregnancy. Change the amount of sugar and carbohydrates you can safely eat. Your doctor should be able to answer your specific questions. You may also want to talk to a nutritionist or other health professional for more specialized dietary guidelines.

Actions to be taken this week to have a healthy pregnancy

Talk to your child

Now that you know your baby can hear you, take some "talk time" with your tummy.... If you already have children's books for the child's room, no need to worry....any reading or conversation can be done... One study, published in the prestigious journal Developmental Psychology Biology, measured fetal heart rate responses and fetal heart rate responses to the mother's voice. Although the babies responded to both, the researchers concluded that the fetuses preferred their mother's voice.

Some researchers have theorized that reading to babies in the womb can lead to intellectual benefits after birth, but there is not yet much evidence of what benefits they can have.

Some reputable sources think the benefits are actually the stress reduction and relaxation moms experience from sitting and reading to their tummies... Either way, scheduling regular story time is a great excuse to slow down and enjoy this special time.

Good nutrition, more movement

If you're eating a generally healthy diet, try not to stress too much about any one choice....If you haven't started making healthy choices yet, it's never too late to start....There are several serious and proven benefits to preventing weight gain during pregnancy....Weight control reduces the risk of complications like high blood pressure and gestational diabetes.

The best way to do this is to eat a balanced diet and continue (or start) a safe daily exercise program during pregnancy... If you're not sure what's safe, call your doctor.

When Should You Call Your Gynecologist

?..

Watch out for contractions that could be a sign of early labor....Don't go to the hospital right away if you feel what you think are contractions....Now that you're in your third trimester, you're more likely to experience Braxton Hicks contractions....You can think of these contractions as practice to prepare your body for the big day. does.

If the sensations you're experiencing are occasional or irregular, and especially if they go away as soon as they start, you're probably having Braxton Hicks contractions.... If it's more, you may be experiencing real contractions.... If in doubt, contact your doctor for specific advice.

You should contact your doctor if you experience the following:

  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Vaginal bleeding or liquid leakage
  • Fever
  • Blurred vision
  • Excessive swelling of the feet or face
