Cataract treatment In this article, we will introduce you to lens replacement after cataract surgery, factors, symptoms and complications, and prevention methods of cataract disease. Cataracts occur when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy from its normal, clear state. Cataract is one of the most common eye diseases in which a person looks at his surroundings as if through steamed glass. The most important and main occurrence of cataract is aging. But other effective factors such as trauma to the eyes, use of steroid and corticosteroid drugs, diabetes and environmental factors such as long-term exposure to strong light also play a role in the occurrence of this disease. There is only one treatment method for this disease, which is surgery. Only with surgery, a person can enjoy a good quality of vision. With cataract surgery, the lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a scanned lens that fits the patient's eye. This replaced lens may be displaced under the influence of factors. Changing the lens after cataract surgery Displacement of the lens inside the eye is usually very rare and this complication happens in very few cases. This complication usually occurs in people who have undergone cataract surgery and have used any type of lens in this surgery. The movement of the lens from its original location, which is called a bug, is called a lens shift. Usually, this is somewhere towards the vitreous of the eye and affects the person's vision. These effects on a person's vision can be different depending on the amount of displacement of the lens and the injuries he has caused. ### The most important symptom of moving the lens after cataract surgery One of the most important symptoms of lens displacement that we can suspect after cataract surgery is blurred vision, seeing the edge of the lens, and double vision. The most common finding in the eye examination is a change in vision, which depends on the severity of the lens dislocation. Also, during the slit lamp examination, the displacement of the lens can be seen by the ophthalmologist. As mentioned above, moving the lens may be accompanied by other injuries and damages, or in fact, it may cause complications. Among the most important of these complications are corneal edema, macular edema, glaucoma, intraocular inflammation or uveitis, bleeding and retinal detachment. In most cataract surgeries, the intraocular lens is placed inside the capsule. A bag-like structure that houses a previously clouded lens. Whenever and for any reason this capsule-like structure becomes thin or the fibers that hold it in place are torn, the support and maintenance of the intraocular lens is jeopardized and there is a possibility of dislocation and displacement of the lens. Also, sometimes due to complications during the operation, this capsule may be damaged. It is even possible that the intraocular lens is not suitable for the person's eye structure and may be displaced. ### Factors affecting the displacement of the lens Displacement of the intraocular lens may occur in the early days after the operation or even years after the operation. This displacement may occur due to factors during surgery, trauma to the eye, or diseases that may affect the capsular bag. Among the other factors that affect the placement of the lens after cataract surgery, we can mention previous retinal and vitreous surgery, inflammation in the eye (uveitis), some connective tissue disorders, and pseudo exfoliation syndrome. Another point is the rotation of astigmatism correcting lenses or so-called torics. These lenses are placed in the eye at a specific angle to correct astigmatism. In the first few days after the operation, it is possible to rotate these lenses. Of course, it is usually possible to correct the rotation of these lenses. #### How to prevent lens displacement There is no other preventive method to prevent intraocular lens displacement after **cataract operation**, apart from being careful not to hit our eyes. Because this happens by itself. However, periodic and regular examinations after surgery can reduce the occurrence of other symptoms in this case and allow faster treatment methods. Based on the amount of displacement and displacement of the lens, there may be several different treatment methods. In cases where the amount of displacement of the lens is minimal and does not have a great impact on the vision, the doctor may not suggest any treatment method and is only satisfied with periodic examinations and checkups. But in cases where this is too much and has affected the person's vision, the surgical method is suggested. During surgery, it is possible to place the same lens in a more stable place or even change the type of lens. In any case, by timely referral and choosing the right treatment method by the doctor, patients with intraocular lens dislocation can get a good vision result after the treatment.
