The book "Nexus" written by Yuval Noah Harari: the disturbing and fascinating history of information networks
In this book, the author takes readers on a journey from clay tablets to thinking machines to provide a more accurate historical view of the artificial intelligence revolution.
The book Nexus, a brief history of information networks by Yuval Noah Harari, like his famous book "The Wise Man: A Brief History of Humanity", does not cover much of human history, but from clay tablets to thinking machines, it passes through paths such as democracy, totalitarianism, the Bible, the industrial revolution and other important topics to give a more comprehensive view of the artificial intelligence revolution.

The main premise of Sapiens was that our species evolved because of the ability to work together in large groups, but can we really act in unison for our own good? Harari challenges how we can call ourselves a "wise man." He believes that we have accumulated enormous power, but power does not mean wisdom, and now we are building new technologies such as artificial intelligence that can get out of our control and destroy us.
According to Harari, and using compelling thought experiments, over-reliance on AI algorithms can be more dangerous for totalitarian regimes; Because these regimes lack control and balance systems. The machine only has to convince the leader (male or female) of the highest authority. However, authoritarian leaders like Stalin should be cautious; Because algorithms cannot be surrendered by fear and they don't understand the double-edged political language. His discussion of a "silicon curtain" instead of the old iron curtain is equally fascinating. He envisions a world of data colonization in which China's and America's use of different hardware and software, like old railroads that used inconsistent track widths, may separate humans into "information cocoons," creating a kind of information gap.
It is disconcerting to read that cyber warfare is not governed by the same principle of "mutual destruction assurance" that prevented Cold War superpowers from pushing buttons. One side might convince itself that "logic bombs, Trojan horses, and malware" can protect it from counterattack after an initial attack, but Harari sees hope in cuts to military budgets (though Putin's "special military operations" in Ukraine disrupted that process) and a shift toward a knowledge-based economy that reduces the potential for war gains.
But "artificial intelligence may not only extinguish human domination on earth, but also turn off the light of consciousness and turn the world into a realm of absolute darkness." Harari counters this heavy thinking with the "good news" that we have the ability to create balanced information networks that control our own power. However, the question remains: Will "intelligent humans" be able to do this?
