Types of colon diseases ========================== In the colon diseases article, before getting acquainted with different intestinal diseases, it is better to explain about the intestine itself. The intestine is a very long organ of the body. The food eaten by a person is broken down in the intestine and then excreted. The intestine has various diseases that we will discuss further. Different types of intestines In simple words, the intestine is a very long tube that is able to break down food for us. In the intestine, the useful substances of food are taken together with water. So, as you have noticed so far, the food you eat enters the intestines. There are two types of intestines in our body, including the large intestine and the small intestine. Before food can be eliminated from the body, it must enter the large intestine. Of course, it should be noted that the most work that the intestine does is absorb water that is present in food. ### Small intestine: The longest organ of the body's digestive system is the small intestine, which reaches six meters in length. Although the small intestine is very long, it is called small intestine because its diameter is very small, about two to four centimeters. The diameter of the large intestine is more than the small intestine and up to six centimeters. In the first part of the small intestine is the duodenum. This part is one of the shortest parts of the intestine. ### Colon: The large intestine is the part of the digestive system that is located between the small intestine and the rectum. The length of this intestine reaches one and a half meters. The function of the large intestine is to reabsorb water from food and water that we drink. Types of colon diseases The large intestine can suffer from many problems, which we will continue to explain one by one of the diseases of the large intestine. Each of the diseases of the large intestine has its own specific symptoms. In this article, we are going to talk about the most common colon diseases. Colon diseases Those who suffer from heartache for some time after eating food and may have continuous diarrhea, as well as symptoms such as bleeding from the anus and weight loss can be considered among the symptoms of intestinal disease. Among other symptoms of intestinal disease, we can mention sweating during the day or fever. #### Corona disease in the large intestine Corona disease has symptoms that make it similar to intestinal diseases, which is why it is difficult to diagnose. Coron disease causes inflammation in a person's intestine. Corona mostly affects the ileum, which is the lower part of the small intestine, and the large intestine. However, this disease can also cause disease in all parts of the body's digestive tract. The inflammation caused by Corona causes a person to experience abdominal pain, fever, weight loss, and diarrhea. Getting this disease has nothing to do with stress. #### Cause of corona disease In people who have this disease, the immune system shows a high reaction against bacteria and substances in the intestine. When the white blood cells attack the intestinal wall, a kind of inflammation occurs in it, which causes the large intestine to swell. Also, this attack causes intestinal ulceration. One of the problems caused by this disease is that if someone in your family is suffering from this disease, the possibility that you will also suffer from this disease is high. #### symptoms of corona disease **The occurrence of the following symptoms can be symptoms of corona disease:** • Pain in the lower and right part of the abdomen • Incidence of diarrhea • Bleeding in the anus • Decreased appetite • Skin problems • Fever • Fatigue • Anemia • Loss of appetite • Pain in the joints • Corona disease in children causes delay in growth #### How to diagnose corona disease Corona disease is not diagnosed by a special test. In order to diagnose this disease, doctors have to prescribe a series of tests for a person suspected of having corona, so that they can distinguish this disease from other diseases that are similar to it. Among the diseases that are similar to Corona disease are celiac disease, diverticulosis, irritable bowel syndrome and ulcerative colitis. irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) This disease is one of the most common diseases in the body's digestive system. Irritable bowel syndrome can affect the lower and upper parts of the digestive system. Women suffer from this syndrome more than men, and this rate reaches two to three times. ### The cause of irritable bowel syndrome Studies have shown that this disease manifests itself when large amounts of bacteria are produced in the small intestine and large intestine. People with this disease have a large intestine because when gas is produced in the large intestine, it causes the intestine to become overactive. Taking a series of medicines and foods makes the symptoms of this disease worse. Among these foods, beans, alcohol, fatty food and chocolate can be mentioned. Symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome show themselves during menstruation, and this indicates that sex hormones affect this syndrome. According to scientists' research, the biggest cause of this disease is the infection of bacteria that live in the intestine. The infection causes nerve damage and constipation. Symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome: • Abdominal pain • Stool with mucus • Flatulence • Vomiting • Nausea • Diarrhea Those who suffer from this disease do not show any symptoms while sleeping. ### The difference between IBS and other diseases Factors such as stress and anxiety make the symptoms of the syndrome worse. There are no signs of inflammation in irritable bowel syndrome unlike Corona disease. Factors that indicate inflammation in the body include things like bloody stools, increasing fever, anemia, rectal bleeding, and weight loss. Ulcerative colitis or ulcerative colitis In this disease, like Corona disease, intestinal inflammation occurs. The cause of this disease is inflammation and small wounds in the colon wall. Although the inflammation occurs at the end of the large intestine and in the anus, it can completely involve the large intestine. Wounds that are created in the inflamed part cause the intestinal lining cells to be destroyed, and as a result, bleeding and infection occur. ### The cause of ulcerative colitis Various factors can cause this disease. Improper diets, reaction of the immune system to the environment and infection can be among the factors that cause inflammation in the intestine. ### Symptoms of ulcerative colitis Among the symptoms of this disease, the following can be mentioned: Pain in the abdomen Rectal bleeding fever tiredness loss of appetite anemia weight loss ### The difference between ulcerative colitis and other diseases Although ulcerative colitis has nothing to do with stress and anxiety, sometimes in some people, stress can increase the symptoms of this disease. In ulcerative colitis, the inflammation that occurs in the large intestine is in its upper part, but in Corona disease, inflammation occurs in the hard walls of the intestine. Diverticulosis disease Many people have small pouches in their colon that protrude outward. These small bags are known as diverticulum, so if an intestine contains these bags, it is called diverticulosis. If the mentioned bags become infected or inflamed, they are called diverticulitis. ### The cause of diverticulosis Lack of fiber in food is one of the common causes of this disease. Fiber makes it easier to pass stools and thus prevents constipation. If bacteria or feces enter the diverticulum, it becomes infected. ### Symptoms of diverticulosis flatulence nausea fever Mild abdominal pain Vomiting and shivering The difference between this disease and other diseases Stress is associated with diverticulosis. Symptoms of diverticulosis occur suddenly. constipation A person should defecate at least three times a week to be able to say that he is not constipated. Also, if a person's stool is not easily excreted and is hard, it can be said that the person is constipated. A person who is constipated has a hard stool and it is difficult to expel it. Constipation is one of the most common digestive problems among people. It might be interesting for you to know that this problem is more common among women than men and this rate reaches three times. The reason for this is that the speed of transmission in men's intestines is higher than that of women, and there are also many women who suffer from constipation during their menstruation. Other factors that affect constipation include old age, diets that contain little fiber, inactivity, and taking a large number of medications. What is constipation with normal transmission speed? In this case, the patient feels constipated, but the stool passes through the large intestine normally. In times of stress, this constipation also becomes more severe. This type of constipation is treated with laxatives or fiber supplements. ### Constipation with low transfer rate: In this case, stool takes longer to pass through the large intestine. In patients with this type of constipation, the large intestine has normal mobility at rest. In this case, those who have severe constipation cannot be treated only by using laxatives and fiber supplements. #### Output constipation: When the stool is supposed to be discharged, the muscles of the pelvic floor are not coordinated. However, most of those who suffer from this constipation have a normal transit rate in the large intestine. In these people, feces can reach the rectum, but it is not able to come out. Patients with this problem can achieve better results by using relaxation exercises. #### Constipation in the elderly: Almost 20% of people who are over sixty-five years old have this problem and the stool exit from their rectum is delayed. Factors that cause this problem include diabetes and Parkinson's disease due to the use of drugs and opium. Constipation in the elderly can cause problems such as lack of fluids in the body, dementia, blood pressure, Parkinson's disease and thyroid. If feces accumulate in the body, it can lead to colon injury and blockage. Similarly, if a person exerts too much force to act constipated, it can lead to the fact that the rectum protrudes. In general, it is always better to prevent treatment, that's why if a person can consume the right amount of liquids during the week and also exercise regularly, he can prevent constipation. Another factor that can prevent constipation is consuming foods that have a lot of fiber. Fiber-rich foods include fruits, whole grains, and vegetables. Fiber makes the stool bulky and soft, making it easier to move. **\*Gastroenterologist in Mashhad\***
