What are Talon Cusps? ================================= Talon cusp is a rare odontogenic abnormality that occurs during the morphological differentiation stage of tooth development. This cusp structure was first proposed by Mitchell in 1982. After that, the cusp-like structure was called cusp talon because it has a structure similar to an eagle's wing. Similar to milk teeth, which are often formed unilaterally, but there are also cases of its being bilateral.. The presence of two cusps of the fork on one tooth is very rare, but such a case may have been reported by Ordogba in the central palatal level of the upper jaw... Now we want to examine this structure, which consists of three stages: 1.... Talon: extends at least half the distance from the CEJ to the incisal edge.... 2.... Semi Talon: extends to less than half this distance.... 3... Talon-Trace: has a very prominent and distinct cingulum.... #### Now let's examine an example: In December 1389, an 8-year-old boy referred to the pediatric department of the dental unit of the Islamic Azad University of Tehran for an oral examination. He was in normal general health and had no significant medical and dental history. Thermal (cold test) and sensitivity to pressure (percussion) were normal... the mesial ridge extended more than half of the distance from the CEJ to the incisal edge and was classified as talon cusp type.... There was no similar abnormality in the child's family.... To check the condition of the pulp in relation to the talon cusp, a periapical radiograph was taken of the area and two radiographs were observed in the radiopaque structure.... The pulp inside the talon cusp in Radiography could not be traced... 3) The presence of talon cusps did not cause any discomfort to the child, and due to the interference with the function of the tongue, it did not cause any negative impact on the child's speaking and swallowing.... In order to prevent caries, the grooves related to the cusps of the fork were blocked by fissure sealant... Due to the presence of multiple caries in the patient, recommendations on how to follow a proper diet and hygiene have been recommended. No caries was observed.. The upper jaw is too high... A rare case of two talon cusps in the maxillary palatal incisors has been reported. Incontinenta can be called.... Similar to most of the previous research, no medical problem related to the abnormality was found in the patient.... We found talon cusp type 1 for a longer ridge and type 2 (half talon) for a shorter ridge.. Radiographically, the talon cusp is seen in Figure 3 as a V-shaped or button structure, and in the cases seen in the mandible, the tip of the mandible, two opposite points, the radiographic structure And in this The report is reversed.. Observed... There is disagreement about the absence of pulp.... Despite the fact that no palpal extension can be detected on radiographs, large talon cusps are often considered to contain pulp.... This anomaly can cause several problems.... Especially large talon cusp causes esthetic problems and occlusal interference.... Caries can spread into grooves created by the talon cusp. and even cause more involvement of the talon cusp.. Based on the shape and size of the talon cusp and its accompanying problems.... Small cusps may only need monitoring.... If there is a deep groove with the talon cusp, sealing it with fissure sealant is necessary.... If the pulp of the talon cusp is involved, root canal therapy is inevitable. is If the pulp is visible in a mature tooth, root canal treatment by an endodontist is the treatment of choice, and when the pulp is in an immature tooth, pulpotomy treatment is performed with calcium hydroxide as a substance. Calcium hydroxide has more predictable results and leads to the formation of a more favorable dental bridge. In this report, he did not have any of the above problems and it is only because of the risk of all dental caries. The gap is blocked by sealant... #### Conclusion Early detection of talon cusp is essential to prevent further problems. It is very important to take a detailed medical and family history in order to check the systemic problems associated with any kind of dental abnormality. ##### **Also, the consultants of this center will answer your possible questions.** Article source: **Case report and overview of Talon Cusps articles**
