Instructions after rotator cuff tear repair surgery

A neck pendant with a pillow is attached for you. The pendant is always closed until your first visit. When you open or close the hanger while bathing or dressing, avoid raising your hand or holding it up and be sure to get help from others.

In the first 48 hours after surgery, use an ice pack on the shoulder. Avoid direct contact of the ice with the skin and leave it for 45 minutes after 15 minutes of use.

Use medications as directed.

Take the prescribed narcotic pill (oxycodone 5) if you have unbearable pain (the maximum usable number is one pill every 4 to 6 hours).

Use non-steroidal pain medications (ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, Advil, celecoxib) only as prescribed for one week and avoid longer use.

When using pain relievers to prevent constipation, use a high-fiber diet and fruits and vegetables.

Do not open your dressing for 5 days. After that, open the dressing completely every two days, after washing with serum and drying and sterilizing the wound with betadine or alcohol, re-dress. The stitches remain for at least 2 weeks.

If you need to bathe before 5 days, don't get the dressing of the operation site wet. After 5 days, there is no prohibition to wet the operation site, but avoid rubbing the operation site.

After bathing, dry the armpit completely.

To prevent blood clots in the leg (DVT) after surgery, walk several times a day and occasionally raise and lower your ankle while resting. The probability of blood clots in the leg after shoulder tendon repair surgery is very low, and due to the health of the leg and the ability to walk, you will not be prescribed any medicine for prevention. Please let me know if you have a history of blood clots in the leg (DVT).

If you see discharge after 5 days from the wound site, severe or progressive redness around the wound site, or a fever above 39 degrees, inform us.
