Good news about breast cancer

Thousands of women with breast cancer could use a twice-daily pill approved by Britain's National Health Service (NHS). This new drug called Abemaciclib can reduce the probability of this cancer returning after surgery by more than 30%. Around 4,000 women with breast cancer in England could benefit from a new pill which reduces the risk of the disease returning. This drug reduces the risk of cancer recurrence after tumor removal. Studies have shown that patients who have taken this drug along with hormone therapy have a 30% higher chance of developing cancer than those who have had hormone therapy alone. The chief executive of the breast cancer charity said: "It's great that thousands of women with early stage breast cancer now have a new treatment option which will go a long way in reducing the risk of the disease coming back. The fear of breast cancer coming back or spreading to other parts of the body and the risk of going untreated can cause significant anxiety for many women. It is a welcome and important step forward in the treatment options available for this group of patients.
